My Right Brain:

Rapping Rhyming Writing

A childhood fan of Shel Silverstein and Weird Al, and born of the generation that escorted rap into the music scene, it’s no wonder I can’t stop taking old school tunes and creating new content with a fun, educational twist! STDs Never Get Old went viral and this home grown product brought in my parents, aunt and some of their friends to be our actors, in addition to my kids. And my best friend from high school her boyfriend helped direct and film! This video enjoyed brief viral fame in local and national news and was linked to on Breitbart and Mashable in the same week! Sports Illustrated called it “the best viral video of 2017” and it led to Sirius XM and I Heart Radio interviews, a Comedy Central game show skit, and an invitation to the British show, The Last Laugh. My latest, Syphilis: It’s Sticky featured my son who is in nursing school as my co-singer and actor!

Blogs, Opinion Pieces and More

Over the past ten years I occasionally carve out some time to write opinion pieces. Most recently I have had a piece in the Milbank Quarterly, several AAFP blogs and have been a guest writer for Kevin M.D. I also contribute academic pieces and write textbook chapters! There is a fine balance, in my roles as both physician and healthcare executive, in being an effective advocate versus a disregarded activist and I endeavor to use data and evidence rather than raw emotion or beliefs to tell my stories.
